Design Museum Boston Announces Four-City Tour of Green Patriot Posters




Boston, MA — November 4, 2013 — Design Museum Boston announces the Museum’s first national touring exhibition, Green Patriot Posters, which will premiere in Boston, MA with an opening reception on January 16, 2014 at 315 on A, a new residential apartment in the Fort Point community, currently designated for Gold LEED certification. The exhibition will travel to Berkeley, CA, Portland, OR and Chicago, IL. This exhibition is concurrent with the Design Museum’s creation of a national entity, Design Museum Foundation, and establishing a new location in Portland, OR.

Edward Morris, Founder of the Canary Project and co-editor of the book, Green Patriot Posters — published by Metropolis Books — is the guest curator for the exhibition. Working closely with Morris, Design Museum Boston will explore poster design as a medium for visual mass-communication. “This exhibition is exactly the kind of public display we had in mind when we first launched the Green Patriot Posters campaign. Each poster is unique and they’re designed to raise awareness of global climate change and inspire viewers to take action,” said Morris. We believe the posters should have one life as images to appreciate and another life in the public domain doing real work changing consciousness.” The exhibition will include hundreds of unique posters displayed in print and digitally in the gallery at 315 on A.

In collaboration with the Museum’s Presenting Sponsor, Gerding Edlen, this exhibition of posters will be on tour for two years. Gerding Edlen is considered one of the nation’s leading firms involved in the investment, development and management of sustainable buildings with an emphasis on building community. The exhibition will also feature a student competition local to each city in partnership with 350.org, an organization working to solve the climate crisis — and it will support Greenovate Boston, the City of Boston’s sustainability initiative, which encourages Bostonians to take action to reduce the city’s greenhouse gas emissions.
